Preparing For Your Session

With the exception of newborns/small babies and some maternity shoots, I shoot all of my pictures on-location (aka, outside). If you have a request for location, I am more than happy to work with you—I always like to discover neat new places. If you don't have a preference, I will do my best to work with you in determining what will be the best setting for your session.

For a typical portrait session, please feel free to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and attractive. These pictures are meant to showcase YOUR personality, not mine!

If you are coming for a maternity shoot, a tighter shirt is preferable. If you are doing a maternity shoot, we will discuss whether or not you should bring any props (baby shoes, clothes, etc.) with you when you come. We will only do pictures you are comfortable with (i.e. no bare belly shots if you don't want them!).

For newborn shoots, please dress your baby in a solid-colored outfit that is easily removable. Please choose a time to do the shoot when your baby is usually calm and (preferably) asleep. Please do bring pacifiers, bottles, or any other things that might help comfort your baby if they become upset. I may request that you bring a receiving blanket or other prop as well.

Because I usually do my sessions outside, evening light is best. I try to schedule my shoots around peak lighting—one to two hours before sunset. I will usually request to meet you a few minutes early so that we can get set up. In case of inclement weather, we can reschedule to a day that works for you. (Some inclement weather—like wind—we can work with; I will let you know the day of the shoot if the weather looks like it won't cooperate.)

During your session, please feel free to make requests or suggestions about locations/backdrops or poses that you would like to try. These are your pictures—they should represent your preferences and personality! However, don't feel pressured to come up with your own ideas if you don't want to—I am always dreaming up new things to try!

Don't stress too much about your upcoming photography session—remember to smile and have fun! My goal is to capture YOUR unique natural beauty. I look forward to getting to know you and getting a great selection of pictures for you!
